Christ Church Students' Union: My Story

Christ Church Students' Union Impact Report 2015/16 highlights some of the wonderful work the Union and its members undertook over the academic year. Each section of the report represents one of the Union's values. I spoke to the Union about all of the fun I had helping their annual Summer Ball.

Joshua's Story

Joshua Heyburn speaks to Christ Church Students' Union about his involvement with their annual Summer Ball event

Fun is a key Union value amongst students and the Students’ Union Summer Ball is the pinnacle of this with a host of big names having graced the stages over the last few years. There is no greater feeling when working an event than to witness the students enjoying themselves.

I got involved with the Summer Ball in my irst year when the Students’ Union gave a talk in my Events Management course. Having the opportunity to assist with the running of the annual event was too good an opportunity to pass up, both personally and professionally.

As a current student I was able to ensure the event was student focused throughout the planning process and I could offer a unique insight from both personal experience and student feedback. Over the past three years I have proudly coordinated the student volunteer teams who help run the Ball and have seen the range of students helping expand as more want to get involved.

Being able to apply the skills and knowledge of my degree to a real life event within the University itself was a fantastic experience and I’m now able to walk away from Christ Church with not only a degree in Events Management but irsthand experience in it also.

As an individual with his heart set on working in the Events Industry, my time working alongside the Union has been invaluable and something I will treasure forever.
